I seen a lot of critics put down the white stripes because there songs arent really about anything. I dont think this is true for all of their songs and infact some lyrics seem to have a lot of meaning behind them. But for those songs that arent about anything I dont think that is necessarily a bad thing. (I would much prefer "louie louie" which seems to be about nothing over "hit me baby one more time" which seems to be about something but is a far inferior song). Also, musically the white stripes to stay true to the heart of rock with out ignoring post 60's developments, and they do it quite well.
The White Stripes are the rare unpretentious band who have changed the music scene in spite of themselves.
The White Stripes are a great band. They really capture the essence of rock and roll as it was first conceived.
Ok. So, I was listening to the White Stripes again the other day and I have come to a better understanding of what I think of their music. They are a guilty pleasure. I really have fun listening to some of their songs which I have realized is different than their songs being good. Their lyrics and composition are simple and their vocals are terrible. However, none of these things keep me from turning up the volume and dancing and singing when the right mood has struck.
Thin sound, shallow feeling, derivative style, gets old fast.
I don't think enough attention is given to The White Stripes. The lyrics to their songs are great and I really dig their music, especially when I have a lot of energy.
