Currently, '24' certainly sits above other television dramas (ignoring ALL of Season 6 of course). However if we look retrospectively, there are way better shows to grace our sets. 'The X-Files' and 'The West Wing' spring to mind, because they deal with far more complex issues than '24' which seems to rehash the same tired formula:
Crisis+ Jack Bauer+ Torture= '24'
24 started as underrated, but has become somewhat of a TV phenomenon. They have high ratings, making Kiefer the highest paid actor on TV, and get a lot of promos - do they deserve it? Hell yes, 24 is crafted together beautifully by using some of the most creative people in TV. The photography is great, the music is perfect and the main character is a major bad-ass. However , in NZ the show is wildly underrated, the last season wasn't even promoted, and was played on Sunday nights at 11:30pm. So really it's depending on where you are situated, but definately from a US point of view the show is "about right", not underrated and under appreciated, not overrated and exhusting people, it's just right
