The Simpsons is the most overrated television series in a long time. It's just not as smart or as funny or as endlessly interesting as its fans make it out to be. It's not bad, but it's not nearly as good as most audiences and critics claim. In fact, it stopped being original or innovative several seasons back.

While current episodes definitely lack the overall greatness of earlier episodes, seasons 4-6 of the show are completely flawless and do not even contain a bad episode. Also, when I say seasons 4-6, I am not simply saying that those are the ONLY good seasons, there has not necessarily been a BAD season yet, but episodes seem to be becoming more and more lackluster as the show continues. I believe that they should just go ahead and call it quits... the show has had a very impressive lifespan, and its influence is apparent in basically all of American culture today.
